Phoenix Foods based in Corby are specialist manufacturers of dry powdered and granular foods and experts in new product development. Whether their client has a requirement for beverages, instant desserts or savoury products, Phoenix Foods have a wealth of experience.
The Phoenix Foods factory is certified by the Soil Association and the Fairtrade Foundation together with accreditation to BRC (British Retail Consortium) standards. To continue these high manufacturing standards Phoenix Foods contacted Crawford UK Ltd to review their issues regarding externally located sliding folding doors. These doors were old, high maintenance, and difficult to operate. Phoenix Foods decided these doors did not meet their requirements for loading and unloading of goods and would not give product protection against pest ingress and external debris and particles.
Crawford in consultation with Gary Rutter, Operations Director, designed a solution for two door openings which incorporated a Crawford High speed door with a side weather protection screen including a removable bottom panel for cleaning purposes. Crawford installed a new steel frame with a galvanised side screen and their E1000 high speed door operates via floor induction loops. With personnel also using the door, Crawford installed safety barriers (recommendations by HSE) to the doors with additional safety photocells; this ensures the door will not close when foot passengers walk through the door opening. The Crawford E1000 High speed door includes integral wind ribs for extreme weather conditions with a full width interchangeable window. The door curtain is designed to “break away” should it be hit by a fork lift truck but can be quickly and easily reinstated, this reduces damage and any call out charges.
Crawford UK included their after sales service support with extended warranties to support Phoenix Foods day and night. Engineers can be on site within hours should there be any operational issues as Crawford have a team of 50 engineers which are located all over the UK.
